It is officially fall, and therefore I’m officially back in the swing of things! With the new season, it’s time for me to come back from a summer break from blogging.
Since I’ve been on a summer schedule, which meant that my days were more spontaneous than planned, I need to find a fall routine to help me remember to blog regularly. In this post, I’m going to talk about how to jump start a fall routine.
Before we even go there, why are routines important? Having a routine can help you live healthier, growth purposefully, and be more creative and productive – all at the same time. A routine can give you an avenue to adopt healthy habits, like waking up early to exercise, or planning healthy meals each week. It also allows you intentional time to find activities that can help you grow personally. For example, finding a weekly art class or simply listening routinely to inspirational podcasts. And, while it may sound counterintuitive, a routine can help you be more creative. For example, daily morning pages open up your creative mind, but it takes a regular practice of doing those pages to see creative benefit. The change of seasons can be a great time to find a new routine.
How can you find a fall routine?
Here are five ideas to consider:
Make the most of your mornings. As days get shorter, evenings may feel less productive. Give yourself more time in the morning to get things done. Not sure what to do? Try exercising to wake up your body (your mind will follow!). Or, give yourself time to read. Even finding some productive time to clean the house in the morning can add to your routine.
Enjoy the outdoors. Fall is a beautiful season. The weather is cooler, the leaves on trees are changing, and animals are getting ready for the winter. It’s a great time to spend time outside. Research has shown that being outside can have both mental and physical benefits. Reserve a few weekends this fall to go for a hike, a bike ride, or simply enjoying the view.
Get healthy before the holidays. Before the holidays hit, find a routine that brings health benefits. Enroll in an exercise class that you simply cannot miss. Choose an activity that you can enjoy with your family. Remember good nutrition! Fall harvests bring yummy fall fruits and veggies: from squash and sweet potato to apples and greens. Remember: getting healthy before the holidays will make the holidays more fun and less stressful.
Find a relaxing fall activity. Pretend that back-to-school applies to you. Find an “extracurricular” activity that relaxes and expands your mind.Is it a weekly thai chi or yoga class? Playing an instrument?
Deepen your relationships. Adding friends and family into your routine can depend your relationships and help you grow. How about joining a neighborhood book club? Or, you can keep it simple with a weekly phone date with a friend. No matter what you do, getting social on the regular can help you feel more connected and supported.
What will you incorporate into your fall routine?
